Permaculture, in this author's terms, is when one structures a garden to work with nature. Instead of planting in rows allowing room for weeds to grow - one plants in clusters, keeping in mind the characteristics of each plant species - giving weeds no room to grow. And sometimes, flowers grow next to vegtables, to keep certain insects around, and other insects at bay, or chives beside broccoli. Permaculture is about cooperation, creativity and communities.
While food costs rise, along with health concerns associated with the distances food travels from farm to market to mouth - gardening is looking ever more appealing to some. From the kitchen herb botantist to the 1/2 acre chicken, corn and rain collector - gardening provides a place to experiment, learn and eat what you grow! Permaculture is about making the most of it all ~ no matter your experience level.
